- Is registration required by law?
- No — and we'll never tell you it is. No federal law requires a service dog, ESA, or therapy animal to be on any registry, and a business or landlord can't demand to see one. People register because a card in your hand ends most questions faster than explaining the law, and because an ID, certificate, and verifiable number are genuinely useful to have.
- So why do people register?
- Convenience and peace of mind. You get an official ID card and certificate you can download the same day and physical copies in the mail, a registration number anyone can verify in the NSAR lookup, and the gear people recognize. For most handlers, handing over an ID quietly defuses a situation that would otherwise mean a conversation about the ADA.
- What's the difference between the ID card and the kits?
- The ID Card + Registration ($39) is the essentials: the official card, certificate, and registration number. The Essential, Deluxe, and Premium kits add the physical gear handlers use day to day — vest, tag, leash clip, and more as you move up — bundled at a lower price than buying the pieces separately.
- How fast do I get it?
- Your registration number, digital ID card, and certificate are available to download from your account right after checkout. Physical cards and any gear in your kit ship promptly, with a rush option at checkout if you need it sooner.
- Can I register more than one animal?
- Yes. Add one registration per animal — each gets its own ID card, certificate, and registration number. If you're registering several, add a kit for each and you'll enter each animal's details after checkout.
- Does registration replace an ESA or PSD letter?
- No — they do different jobs. Registration is identification and a public record. An ESA or psychiatric service dog letter is a state-licensed clinician's documentation, and it's what actually carries weight for housing (ESA) or as clinical backing (PSD). Many people get both; if you need the housing protection, start with the letter.
