Is service dog registration required by law?

No. The ADA does not require any registry, ID, or certification, and a business can't demand one — the only questions they may ask are whether the dog is a service animal required for a disability and what work or task it's trained to perform. People register anyway because handing over an ID card ends that exchange in seconds instead of a conversation.

Does registering make my dog a service dog?

No — and no registry can. A service dog is a dog individually trained to perform tasks that mitigate a disability; that status comes from the training, not a card. This registration is identification and a public record for a dog that already does the work.

What do I actually get?

An official photo ID card, a certificate, and a verifiable NSAR registration number that anyone can confirm in our public lookup. The Essential, Deluxe, and Premium kits add the gear handlers use day to day — vest, tag, and leash clip — bundled below the à-la-carte price.

How fast do I get it?

Your registration number, digital ID card, and certificate are available to download from your account right after checkout. Physical cards and any gear in your kit ship promptly, with a rush option at checkout if you need them sooner.

Do I still need a PSD letter?

They do different jobs. A psychiatric service dog letter is a state-licensed clinician's documentation, useful for housing and workplace accommodation; registration is identification and a record. Many psychiatric handlers get both — if you need the clinical backing, add the PSD letter.
